Mother-of-pearl inlay is one of the traditional decorative techniques in China. It originated more than 1,600 years ago. This technique refers to the decorative method of processing the shells of mollusks such as snails, shells and mussels into thin slices, carving and assembling them into patterns like flowers, figures, birds and beasts, and then inlaying them on the surface of objects.
