Historical and Cultural Background: Cloisonné enamel is an extension of the traditional cloisonné making process. It draws on the wire inlay and blue dotting techniques from traditional cloisonné handicrafts. On a flat medium, various patterns are inlaid with wire, and then colored by means of blue dotting using raw materials such as glazes and enamel sands.
